Having been a professional watch reviewer for the last 3 years of the
10 total in the watchmaking industry, I can say without fear of refute
that I have encountered probably more watches in that space of time than
most will see in a lifetime. I say this to say that the Citizen Promaster Aqualand Depth Meter is something special.
My opinion is formed because after seeing a few other Depth Meters out
there (IWC's Aquatimer 2000 springs to mind), I think the price point is
pretty impressive. For those that want to look up the watch, the reference # is BN2029-01E. The MSRP from Citizen is $950. Naturally, at Discount Watch Store we have that watch in stock and priced very competitively.
As a diving watch, the BN2029-01E has all of the staples one would expect from a watch designed for scuba.
Things like a unidirectional bezel, a high level of water resistance
(200 meters [20 ATM], ISO 6425 compliant), and the textured, screw
locked main crown; which in this case is located at the 4 position.
What's new and different on this model is the depth gauge at 9 o'clock,
and the two pushers at 8 and 10, whixch are used the maximum depth, and
resetting the gauge respectively. The case of the watch is made from hypoallergenic stainless steel, and is fitted with a black polyurethane strap. Securing the strap is an ardillon buckle. Some critics argue that at 53mm, this Citizen watch is too big; but I think that the size is great especially for legibility when under the water.
The dial is black with white hour indexes, and white minute markers. The hands and markers all have lume for the readability of the time in poorly lit conditions. The hour hand is white, while the minute and continuous seconds hand are in orange.
Another white hand this time a bit smaller is responsible for the
maximum depth readout, while the arrow shaped hand in blue reveals the
current depth. At the 9 position on the dial is a power reserve indicator in retrograde format. Balancing this feature is a date aperture at 3 o'clock. The depth gauge scale uses prominent Arabic numerals.
